Kenny Florence – “Blue Pearl”

/

North Carolina-based singer/songwriter and producer Kenny Florence impresses with new track “Blue Pearl,” the first single from a forthcoming 3-song EP, out in April. Florence describes the effort lyrically as “a kind of daydream — a meditation on the spiritual subtleties of love, beauty, and struggle in a relationship,” noting inspirations like early Smashing Pumpkins in its showcase of both lush contemplation and distortion-friendly rock textures.

A dreamy, contemplative vein of emotive rock excels, with the uptick in vibrancy playing poignantly in the “summertime,” reference; the glistening guitars concoct that sort of sunshine-friendly vibe into a ’90s alt-rock nostalgia, and Siamese Dream in particular. “Blue Pearl” is a strongly memorable output from Kenny Florence.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
