MatAre – “On Purpose”

/

“On Purpose” is the latest dream-pop success from Atlanta-based artist MatAre, enamoring previously with the tracks “Gone Away For You” and “Dream About You.” Pulsing bass and starry-eyed synths complement vocals depicting a dream-like state. “And then I saw her face, I was blinded by the thoughts in my own mind,” they admit, joined by a twangy guitar adornment. “I just want your ghost to fade away,” continues a yearning to forget. A Suede-esque guitar line enters as the vocals fade, adding further to the compelling soundscape.

““On Purpose” is the final song from a trilogy of 3 singles that tell a story of desire, infatuation, and obsession,” MatAre explains. “The meaning of the lyrics can be interpreted as a person being addressed but often, “I direct my songs at problems or trauma in my life, as if I’m talking to an actual person. But it’s really a kind of therapy for me to work things out.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
