Liz Nash – “Boo Boo Betty”

/

A compelling slice of bluesy Americana, “Boo Boo Betty” is a new single from Liz Nash, based in Mount Dora, Florida. The artist also works as a part-time psychiatric nurse, and says: “I use writing to talk about mental illness, personality disorders and just everyday life.” Severe depression is addressed on “Boo Boo Betty,” which chronicles a fictitious character in their day-to-day life. The artful approach lends a therapeutic benefit, as well. “I sometimes use different songwriting exercises in the facility I work at help patients process their traumas,” Nash explains.

The vocals on “Boo Boo Betty” begin with a debonair lament — “she sleepwalks through the day,” they let out, immersing within a range of delectably twangy guitars. A soaring guitar line enters at the track’s mid-point, as the vocals continue thereafter into the day’s events of Boo Boo Betty, from awakening into the moments as she crawls back into bed. The catchy vocal refrain and rock-ready appeal combines with relatable depictions of depression for a compelling track from Liz Nash.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
