The Hinterland – “Bullet Proof”

/

A stirring single from London-based band The Hinterland, “Bullet Proof” resonates in its portrayal of a manipulative relationship’s aftermath — where a yearning to regain emotional control persists. The track comes via their upcoming full-length album, due to release in July. The band wrote, recorded, produced and mixed the album entirely by themselves.

“Bullet Proof” builds with enjoyably melodic momentum. Clanging piano evolves into a more elegant display alongside ruminating guitars. The vocals follow with an emotive clarity, pleading “it’s all I ask of you,” into the resonating chorus. “I can’t get you out of my head,” they lament into the haunting “me and my bullet proof heart,” hook; the aesthetic reminds enjoyably of Manic Street Preachers’ more modern, approachable material. “Bullet Proof” is a memorable success from the band, who balance accessible immediacy with a well-produced emotive theatrics.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
