Softer – “Beachball”

/

A memorable new track from Los Angeles-based band Softer, “Beachball” is a resonating, soaring rocker with a perseverant thematic pull. Dreamy vocal introspection pair with varied guitar tones, spanning from surf-y vibrancy to more intense punk-touched guitar drives. The vocal layers throughout, meanwhile, bear a fond likeness to Frankie Rose’s soaring qualities.

“I won’t fall again,” Belinda Cai’s resonating vocals let out, after recounting a sense of imbalance and personal tumult. The one-minute turn stirs in its halted percussive stomps and riveting vocals — daring to “deflate me,” — as the “we spin around,” dreamier tones re-emerge. “Beachball” is a thorough success from the act, who artfully capture moving on from heartbreak and into brighter skies/calmer waters.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
