London-based artist Athena Lim unveils a melodic, radiant sound with folk, rock, and pop appeal on new track “Til’ the Sunrise.” Ranging from string-laden adorations to the invigorating chorus’ anthemic beckoning, the colorful production and harmonious vocal dynamics remind fondly of Japanese Breakfast. “Til’ the Sunrise” marks the third single from Lim’s upcoming debut LP, which follows up last summer’s EP, Hello Frances. Creating alongside multi-instrumentalist and producer James Atin-Godden, Lim’s sound consumes in its knack for structural momentum and heart-on-sleeve hookiness.
“Waiting for the sunrise, and the light to change your eyes,” Lim’s vocals open, complemented by a solemn folk-forward frolicking. “Kiss me,” they continue into gorgeous strings, which continue into the ardent “let’s dance ’til the sunrise,” urgings. The track’s development from introspective folk into a vibrant chamber-pop expanse makes for a replay-inducing delightfulness. The three-minute turn also dazzles in its cohesion of jangling guitar dexterity and expressive string reflections — and then into a lovely, serene “you make me feel alive,” catharsis in the conclusion. “Til’ the Sunrise” is a thorough success from the Canadian, UK-based artist.
