Los Angeles-based duo Fore Fader casts a beautifully illuminated spell across “All I Ever,” whose gorgeous array of vocals — from dreamy ruminations to anthemic title-touting catharsis — melds seamlessly with twinkling keys, trickling guitars, and buzzing textural precision. Led by the duo of Stephanie Carlin and Carey Clayton, Fore Fader shows a penchant for emotively affecting pop songcraft within. At its heart, “All I Ever” seems to capture how over-ambition can lead to a neglect of life’s most important moments, which may feel understated when they’re occurring despite leaving a lasting mark.
“The phrase ‘All I Ever Need’ is about the illusion of fulfillment,” Carlin says. “We keep chasing satisfaction through egoic pursuits, but sometimes it just shows up—unannounced and perfect.” These resonating sentiments are conveyed within a consistently radiant production, reminding at points of a dreamier, more vibrantly serene How to Dress Well. The duo recorded the track at Carey’s home studio in Los Angeles, where he played every instrument within and also mixed the track.
A lushly effervescent soundscape arrives into a vocal presence, repeating “all I ever need,” with hypnotic ethereality. Shimmering synths and an orchestral-like maneuvering show between the spaces, leading to an enthralling emergence as vibe-y guitars accompany Carlin’s magnetic vocals: “An apparition of ambition grew, and now it’s haunting you.” Fore Fader thoroughly captivate on the lovely “All I Ever.”
