Chicago-based artist Foxvalley infuses drum-and-bass intensity with glowingly melodic synths and piano, resulting in a riveting sound throughout the new album Brighter, Further. The producer and DJ began producing in 2012 under a UK Hardcore alias, shifting to DnB thereafter and culminating in last year’s debut album, Palettes & Pitfalls. Its follow-up, Brighter, Further, continues to strut a captivating, lovably atmospheric sound.
The album’s title track kicks into gear with an illuminated sense of intrigue, swelling from orchestral-like radiance into atmospheric synth charms. Palpable momentum is conveyed via the rising rhythmic intensifying, culminating in an energetic percussive pace alongside dreamy synth effervescence; the soundscape resembles the feeling of racing through a tropical wonderland. “Stardust” ensues, featuring a magnetic vocal-bolstered production that excels in its glistening piano work, spacey synths, and infectious percussive drive.
Another standout track, “Let Go” succeeds with its dynamic tonal range — across both intense percussive maneuvers and dreamy vocal introspection. The alluring vocal infusions and starry-eyed synths remind fondly of DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ in its memorable aesthetic. Brighter, Further is a resonating success, from start to finish, ranging from brisk electro-pop readiness to more serene contemplation — and succeeding consistently throughout.
