An anthemic rock hold stirs on “Get Up,” a new single from Chicago-based band Getting Started. A title-touting call for action compels within a momentum-filled production, swelling from rumbling bass intrigue into soaring vocal invigoration and whirring guitar tones as the final minute flows freely. It marks a thorough success from the quintet, who will be making their NYC live debut on June 6th, at Bowery Ballroom.
Created at Chicago’s legendary Gravity Studios, “Get Up” casts a nostalgic warmness initially with the sturdy layers of guitars. “Promise not to fight like we always do,” a pleading, subdued vocal character ventures melodically into clanging piano touches, as the time to “get up,” is firmly established — seemingly invoking a drive to avoid previous pitfalls, for a better night and existence overall.
The climactic first half builds into a sweltering second half, emitting a harmonious guitar-driven sound with fond ’90s alt-rock throwback entrancement. The bass-y drive to the three-minute turn reminds fondly of The Wrens, while the ensuing vocal ardency channels an expressive ardor. “Get Up” is a resonating success from Getting Started.
