Owls of Neptune – “Hold On”

/

A strongly melodic rock sound shines on “Hold On,” the latest single from Owls of Neptune, a band based in Australia’s Sunshine Coast. From its initial piano-set introspection to a rousing, concluding guitar solo, the track stirs in its timeless-sounding production and dynamic structural ascent. It’s an impressive showcase in songwriting from the band, whose sound infuses the familiarity of touchstones like The Beatles and Oasis with the band’s own sharp-cutting arsenal.

“Here I go again, I know it’s not the end,” vocals push forward with emotive clarity as melodic piano glides alongside. A title-touting beckoning — “hold on to everything you got,” — emerges thereafter into ardent guitar pulses and a steady rhythmic backbone. An ensuing push to “breathe in,” and reminder that “it doesn’t have to be the end,” plays with warm reassurance. A striking shift takes hold in the next sequence, with a McCartney-esque prowess as the “won’t be barking at your door,” sequence delights in its mixture of clanging piano and expressive guitar reflections. Owls of Neptune craft a replay-inducing, heartfelt success in “Hold On.”
