RITUALS – “Aurora”

/

Toronto-based band RITUALS strut a nocturnal post-punk and shoegaze intertwining on “Aurora,” representing the lead single from the EP of the same name. The band first caught our ears last year with the track “Illusions,” which also features on the EP. “Aurora” kicks into gear quickly, rising cohesively from vague guitar tones into a sporadic vocal pulse and clamoring distortion. Bursting guitars and intensified vocals take hold after the 30-second turn, then sending chills with multiple guitar layers as the mid-point approaches.

The Aurora EP is consistently impressive in its various tonal realms — from soaring vocals and electrifying guitar work to more nocturnal, understated ruminations. Stream it below:

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
