Two recent singles from New Jersey-based band Royal Blush compel with melodic, heartfelt appeal — swelling from dreamy intrigue into a rousing alt-rock expanse on “Butterflies on the Grave,” while “Cherry Cola” a more glistening pop and rock synergy. They both come from the upcoming EP, A Ways Away.
“Butterflies on the Grave” ventures from sporadic, lush guitars and haunting vocals. “In love with the sun, in love with the moon,” the magnetic vocals let out, sending chills upon the “looking back,” reflections. The mid-point achieves a sense of resonating catharsis in its fervent percussion and wailing guitars. The band describe this standout track as a “sparkling ode to setting your life ablaze and driving out to the desert, รก la Bonnie and Clyde.”
The EP’s second single, “Cherry Cola” also consumes in its structural ascent from radiant pop introspection into a more ardent expanse. “Drink it down just like cherry cola,” the opening sequence exudes, referencing sugar rushes and a yearning to escape. “They want us to serve time,” a climactic sequence begins, arriving thereafter into stirring “why would we hide?” emotion as the pulsing rock hook takes hold. We’re now firmly anticipating the act’s upcoming EP.
