Sophia St. Helen – “Radio Silence”

/

Traversing from piano-set introspection to impassioned rock and string-laden emotion, “Radio Silence” is a gripping new track from Sophia St. Helen. Based between San Francisco, California and Athens, Greece, Sophia St. Helen took particular inspiration from Florence and the Machine and London Grammar for the release’s overall direction. The resonating production aligns with affecting themes, using the titular “radio silence” term to represent “the heartbreak of receiving silence in return.” Also collaborating on the single are Dimitris Stasinos, Vasilis Alexopoulos, and Vasilis Nissopoulos.

The track’s opening lyrics — “darkness, stillness…” — are poignantly reflected by the initially understated instrumentation; solemn piano pulses and dreamy guitar strums craft a spaciously inviting soundscape. “I’ve never felt a fire burn quite so bright,” the riveting vocals soar thereafter, now accompanied by pulsing rhythms and a sense of palpable momentum. “Radio Silence” consistently compels in its tonal range — from the dreamily immersive “when I sleep” introspection to the rousing “how could you walk away without something said?” ardency. “Radio Silence” is a stirringly emotive success from Sophia St. Helen.
