Wall Street Blues is a consuming new EP from Sanjay Michael, embracing the power of electric guitars and melodic piano lines within a bluesy, sincere sound. His 2023 single “Rocking Into Midnight” caught our ears with its nostalgic rock sound, and Wall Street Blues continues to impress with a memorable allure across its three tracks.
Rather than the more predictable themes within popular music, Sanjay Michael succeeds in a more no-frills thematic vision here — succeeding in his aim to “bring the focus back to the basics of everyday humanity. Songs about love and money are a good place to start!”
“Baby Baby” opens the EP with rousing momentum, swelling from debonair bluesy guitar work into pulsing rhythmic drive and vocal intensity — his vocals letting out “rock and roll is all I wanna do” with ardent infectiousness. Depictions of dancefloor-set seduction and adoration for music pair with a fun blues-rock energy for an enveloping kick-off to the EP. Its title track is another winner, declaring “they’re gonna win, and you’re gonna lose” within catchy bluesy riffs; its perspectives on market manipulators, and luck in general, fully resonate into a delectable guitar solo around mid-point.
“Who’ll Be My Friend” succeeds as the EP’s finale, presenting an emotive, lounge-set sound in its tasteful fusing of suave piano and smoky guitar licks. “Who’s gonna be with me ’til the very end?” the vocals let out, yearning for “someone by my side” and fitting aptly within another fantastic production that stirs in heart-filled, bluesy sound. Wall Street Blues is a wholly enjoyable EP from Sanjay Michael.
