Bear, Man Dangerous – “Noboru and the Sailor”

/

Seattle-based project Bear, Man Dangerous presents an enjoyable intrigue throughout new single “Noboru and the Sailor.” Its artful folk sound infuses elements of slowcore and shoegaze, resulting in an atmospheric introspection that compels throughout its runtime. Thematic sentiments alongside ruminate on how humanity can prioritize short-term profit over empathy, human well-being, and the planet’s future — choosing immediate gain over lasting good.

Sung alongside steady acoustic strums and psych-friendly subtle textures, the opener’s nod to “Marquis de Sade and Genghis Khan” sets a tone of ruthless power dismantling moral guidance. Lines like “we vote for these captains of industry / Begging, pleading / Just to be the fuel” capture a complicity in systems that value profit and efficiency above all else. The closing lines amidst twinkling haunts — “There’s a million ways to skin a cat / Just pick one / And make it cruel” — sharpens into further commentary on deliberate harm and a system seemingly built to accommodating it, tactfully exposing societal cruelty amidst a consuming, dreamily experimental folk immersion.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
