A nocturnal ambient spell takes hold on “Scavengers,” a newly released track from American-German visual artist and musician Eric Angelo Bessel. The release comes via his upcoming second solo album, Mirror at Night, which unveils its atmospheric sound across twelve ambient pieces that balance nostalgia and ingenuity. Vintage Mellotron tones and Alesis synths form a textural palette akin to the glow of the moon — full of mystique in its gentle illumination. The captivating “Scavengers” has us thoroughly anticipating the upcoming full-length (out on 10/31) from Bessel, who is currently based in Portland, Oregon.
“Scavengers is an homage to mind coalescence and superorganisms trying their thousands of hands at constructing lo-fi string ensembles echoing through the night, and in reverse, whenever it suits them,” Bessel says of the track.
“Scavengers” commences with a glimmering intrigue, where a murky backing lushness is layered enjoyably with emergent shimmers. A nighttime-set entrancement is conveyed via the steady tonal disposition, devoid of rhythms or tonal shifts — and overall navigating with a simultaneously warming and relatively eerie disposition, in its spacey pulsations. The final 30 seconds sees a gradual fading-out of the ambient textures, culminating in a gently absorbing conclusion that wanes cohesively into the night. “Scavengers” is a stirring ambient success from Eric Angelo Bessel.
