Fuzzy guitar pulses, playful vintage organs, and harmonious vocal layers enamor across “Ghostwriter,” a recent psych-revival single from Ghost Party. The project of guitarist and singer-songwriter McCullough Ferguson enamors with a hooky, stylish nostalgic rock and pop intertwining — here complemented by lyrical pursuits of dealing “with the frustration of writers block, panic attacks, and nightmare premonitions.”
“It’s never really over, and it never begins,” the vocals let out initially amidst amiable guitar lines, quickly accompanied by spurts of punchy organs. “You look into the mirror, and there’s nobody there,” they continue into a sporadic, infectious build-up. Later additions of backing vocal reflections and fuzzed-out guitar warmness consume, as does the “what are you gonna do?” dreamier bridge — then venturing into a sating “little ghostwriter” refrain and psych-ready send-off.
