“Whispering Words” is an enthralling psych-rock standout from Lake Dreamland, the project of Portland, ME-based multi-instrumentalist Brian Healey. The track achieves a warming blissfulness in its calming bass line and hazy guitar shimmers, complemented by a twangy, soaring quality that eases cohesively into a lushly absorbing vocal presence. The spacey synths, bass-y maneuvering, and delectably dazed vocals remind fondly of Tame Impala.
“I feel it drifts further away,” the vocals let out during an especially memorable sequence, into pit-pattering percussion and ensuing synth-fronted spaciousness. The layered vocals then emerge into jangling guitars and reflective harmonies, delighting at a three-minute turn where the guitars, synths, and rhythms combine with intoxicating appeal. “Whispering Words” is a melodic psychedelic charmer from Lake Dreamland.
