Marc Gundermann – ‘Konsole’ EP

/

The debut solo EP from Berlin-based musician Marc Gundermann, Konsole is an enveloping ambient success that leaves a strong mark across a variety of sounds — from the eerie, nocturnal swell of opening “SANDPIPER LODGE” to the lushly magnetic free-flowing within “WOHLGEMUT.” Described as “a sonic diary of introspection and exploration” that took particular inspiration from studio solitude and the death of director David Lynch, the EP also emphasizes Gundermann’s fascination with the “dualities in digital and organic realms.”

Opening track “SANDPIPER LODGE” showcases Gundermann’s atmospheric talents and knack for tonally dynamic precision. Industrial-like unease and analog warmth intermingle with eerie yet caressing qualities, further embracing an otherworldly vibe as vocal samples repeat numbers — like a transmission from outer space. The track’s mid-point sees further immersion in crackling, whooshing, and blaring effects that maneuver with artful momentum. The track is riveting in its gradually unveiling soundscape, fading out into “APPARITION,” another ghostly delight that enters into throbbing pulsations and an understated sort of infectiousness in its clanging interplays.

Another standout track, “WOHLGEMUT” presents a dreamier lushness overall, compared to the opening one-two punch. Caressing synths and gentle bass-y ruminations intertwine in lovely form, attaining an effervescent clarity by the track’s middle — further enhanced by elegant, serene piano components. Konsole is a beautiful, memorable EP that enamors in its textured, atmospheric audible introspection.

“WOHLGEMUT” is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Obscure Ambient.
