Midnight Granger – “Something’s For Nothing”

/

A mellow, inviting introspection enamors on “Something’s For Nothing,” a track from Midnight Granger that charms in its balmy mixture of lush guitars and dreamy keys. The project of New York-based artist Nick Levenson continues to impress, first catching our ears in 2022 with the track “Hardly Find The Time.”

“I’ve had a hard time, things just don’t feel right,” subdued vocals let out initially, as a sense mixture of guitars, keys, and steady percussion assemble into a cathartic shift: “I’m going home, to a place, be alone.” The twanging guitar work here excels within the more forlorn vocal delivery, which maneuvers seamlessly back into the “I’m not right” initial reflections. With enjoyable shades of Mac Demarco’s best, “Something’s For Nothing” is a thoroughly memorable output from Midnight Granger.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
