A powerfully emotive rocker from Manchester-based artist Chords of Indigo, “The Thread” envelops in its climactic prog-rock dynamics and culminating, hooky vocal soaring. The track marks the opener to the project’s upcoming five-track concept EP, Evelyn and the Evil. Singer-songwriter Lee Hornsby channels an enjoyable tonal balance here and throughout Chords of Indigo’s output. In the case of “The Thread,” a darker intrigue resonates in the verses’ steady guitar pulses, while the cathartic chorus finds an enjoyable uptick in vocal vibrancy and textural guitar immersion.
Within the EP’s thematic context, “The Thread” represents “the beginning of Evelyn’s descent into The Evil – though it’s the latter’s voice we hear most prominently on this track.” The memorable vocal push to “trace your steps” captivates with retrospective intrigue, while “the thread unravels through these devil’s eyes” ensuing ardency engages in its poetic lyricism and invigorating rush of twanging guitars and vocal passion — capped off by a diverse guitar-set conclusion, moving from an effervescent solo to dreamier charm. “The Thread” is another success from Chords of Indigo, who first caught our ears with the track “The Death Of Me” in 2023.
