Gemïny – “My Lady”

/

A glistening, soulful R&B appeal shines on “My Lady,” a new track from Gemïny that showcases the North Carolina native’s knack for memorably lush soundscapes and hooky, emotive vocal introspection. The lyricism explores the shock and pain of realizing someone you trusted wasn’t genuine. “Do you know what it means / When you call / Cuz you were my… I gotta let go,” Gemïny sings, highlighting a struggle to move on from someone steeped in deceit.

The array of trickling guitars and twinkling keys bolster an enveloping vocal performance, simultaneously debonair and heartfelt. “My Lady” is a standout showing from Gemïny, whose upcoming album is slated to release next spring. He elaborates on the track’s creative process, below:

“I had to take a lot of time to dissect the post-mortem feelings of this album. Reflecting on the nostalgic fantasies versus the reality, this track really captures that battle. It hones in on the betrayal and all the excuses you make to maintain the idealized image of your person. It took a couple of years to come to, and even longer to accept it. But musically, that journey finally comes with a big payoff.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
