Sehore – ‘Husfikbur’

The riveting sophomore album from Spanish band Sehore, Husfikbur emphasizes both melodic immediacy and impressive musicianship across its 14 tracks. Their debut album, Ladencia, caught our ears earlier this year — immersing with a range of rock-forward productions and diverse inspirations, from calypso to tango. The album’s reflective thematic tone — drawing through scattered memories and personal experience — pairs with a compelling conceptual direction. The band utilizes kitsch (as analyzed by Umberto Eco), whilst blending consonant harmonies with dissonance.

Opening track “Bossa velha” quickly showcases the band’s knack for electric tonal pursuits — shifting seamlessly between raucous rock invigoration and bossa-nova inspired grooves. “Locura” then arrives with a twangy suaveness, succeeding with a dreamier intrigue as jangling guitars crawl enjoyably amidst a steady vocal introspection. The album’s strong start continues with the ravishing “Charanga,” hypnotizing with layers of guitar that unfold with a trickling, Dire Straits-esque charm.

Husfikbur continues to impress throughout. Amongst the many highlights, “Escape room” crafts a gripping late-night atmosphere with its jumpy guitar work and sporadic vocal pushes — employing the melodic minor scale in its progressions, and stirring especially as heavier guitar pulses and intensified vocals hit around the one-minute turn. Album finale “Lagrimita” struts a memorable production that hearkens to an ’80s post-punk solemnness, akin to Chameleons UK in its moody guitar twangs and heartfelt vocals. Husfikbur is another thorough success from Sehore.
