Chen Longo – “There Goes The Girl I Love, Kissing All The Boys I Hate”

An unrequited and angst-y enthrallment flows on “There Goes The Girl I Love, Kissing All The Boys I Hate,” a melodic new track from Brooklyn-based artist Chen Longo. “Thanks for breaking my heart twice,” vocals let out amidst peppy acoustic strums and pulsing rhythms, echoing a clear Belle & Sebastian inspiration in the bouncy, confessional indie-pop aesthetic.

A title-bearing segment builds climactically into a fantastic, brass-laden vibrancy — as the lyrics admit to “missing you” and rousing electric guitars emerge thereafter. The track builds with impassioned, glowing energy throughout — infusing heartbreak and “too beautiful for me” feelings with a magnetic, replay-inducing pop heart.

Chen Longo elaborates: “This song is heavily influenced by If You’re Feeling Sinister era Belle & Sebastian, Weezer, Spoon, and the Magnetic Fields. I wrote it for a girl that was out of my league. At least I got a song out of it.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
