D3lta – “Kids”

/

A standout new track from Anglo-Greek artist D3lta, “Kids” pairs a melodic rock/pop spiritedness with poignant insights on the modern world — and particularly how the harrowing events of today will have an impact on future generations. Expressive vocals build with enjoyable momentum, culminating in a chorus that reminds fondly of Suede in its vocal tone and punctuating guitar vibrancy.

The thematic hold within is of utmost relevance. Social unrest and tumult are broadcast in bite-size clips through smartphones, where users become accustomed to scrolling them with a sense of detachment, prompting powerful lyrical questions within the track — like “how’d we get so numb?” — in addition to equivalencies of a society with “wool over our eyes.”

“The refrain ‘The kids will be alright’ doesn’t arrive as reassurance, but is a chilling mantra of denial, the lie we tell ourselves while the world burns,” D3lta explains. “As what feels heaviest, is knowing that children growing up in places of conflict like Gaza and beyond, have no fault in any of it. They were simply born into circumstances beyond their control, and it feels like we’re sitting back without doing enough to change it.”

Understated guitar twangs and moody vocals move with magnetic qualities, escalating as a more prominent rhythm section emerges and the vocals arise into the rousing perspectives of numbness. “Who have we become? Look at what we’ve done,” the commanding vocals continue, invigorating in the clanging guitar tones and concluding “kids will be all right” solemnness. “Kids” succeeds as both a melodic earworm and piece of contemporary introspection, being a firm example of D3lta’s fantastic songwriting.
