Patti Zlaket – “Clock Keeps Tickin'”

/

Patti Zlaket captivates with her new single “Clock Keeps Tickin’,” a timeless-sounding success that melds soft rock, sophisti-pop, and singer-songwriter allure. The song builds with catching layers of piano and guitar, culminating in a stirring title-touting chorus. We were first immersed into Zlaket’s world earlier this year with the deluxe-edition release of her debut album The Promise, which reminded us of her enduring gift for melody and emotion. “Clock Keeps Tickin’” builds naturally on that rediscovery, reaffirming Zlaket as an artist whose voice continues growing.

The track builds with a powerful ascent, stirring initially with hazy layers of acoustic guitars. Zlaket’s vocals build with melodic enthrallment, venturing from introspective verses into a gorgeous title-bearing chorus with twinkling piano and caressing guitar work. The soulful vocals and memorable instrumentation combine for a nostalgic sophisti-pop allure, packing a strong punch in regard to both melodic and atmospheric appeal.

An especially striking sequence takes hold just past the mid-point, unveiling a bridge where moody vocals admit “can’t walk away, but I can’t bear to stay” into a beautiful assortment of jangling guitars and effervescent keys. “The clock keeps tickin’, and it’s not something you’ve done, you’re just the latest one in how the plot thickens,” Zlaket lets out with a debonair enjoyment, then moving into an apt, clocklike-esque rhythmic backing as the track comes to a sating conclusion.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
