cadzo – “Bored with the Melody”

Denver-based band cadzo showcase a memorable sound on new single “Bored with the Melody.” Written and recorded between home studios and basements, the track captures the friction between burnout and inspiration, traversing artistic vision as well as lived-in experience. Propelled by Collin Orr’s introspective lyricism, “Bored with the Melody” enamors in its mixture of melodic art-rock sophistication and contemplative lyrical power.

Fragmented synths quickly arise into a jaunty, twanging guitar drive. Sporadic pushes of drums further the sense of momentum, culminating in a peppy vocal delivery whose lyricism resembles a self-actualization of sorts — where one pushes past complacency into creativity and ingenuity. “Interest is lacking, not to my surprise,” they let out. “I never looked life right into the eyes.” It doesn’t take long for the production’s charm to unveil itself; by the first minute’s conclusion it’s hard to push the stop button.

Subsequent laments of being “bored with my own melody” further that feeling of personal burnout, artfully accomplished — especially as soaring, dreamy instrumentation takes hold past the two-minute turn, pairing with the “you are sleeping” vocal sample for an invigorating dose of heady introspection. The track’s art-rock demeanor proves consistently delightful, swelling cohesively between jumpy guitar infectiousness, psychedelic hookiness, and thoughtful lyricism. “Bored with the Melody” is a definitive success from cadzo.
