A bluesy garage-rock charisma shines on “King of the Night Time,” the latest track from Christian & the 2120’s. The Gothenburg, Sweden-based project of Christian Smedström continues to enamor with a stylish fusing of various rock realms — stoner, blues, and alternative — and here excels with a debonair, no-frills charm. Back following a few years’ hiatus, and also with original producer Kristoffer Ragnstam, Christian & the 2120’s appear newly invigorated with “King of the Night Time.”
An assortment of twangy guitars and subdued distorted pulses build into a “when midnight comes too soon” vocal intrigue, with references to dancing with “the demon” exuding a sense of personal reckoning and living on the edge. The title-referencing appeal then shines, tonally exuding a Lennon-esque flair, before traversing back into the delectably sludgy guitar work. “King of the Night Time” persists throughout with a replay-inducing bluesy rock feverishness.
