Ascending from jangly guitars and spacey synth flourishes into a spirited ardor, “Days and Nights” is a stirring new track from Oakland-based project Omnesia — comprising vocalist Medella Kingston and guitarist/producer M2. The track captures the myriad of emotions involved when a loved one travels — from the loneliness when they’re away, to the euphoria when they arrive back home. The duo collaborated with composer and multi-instrumentalist Eric Slick (drums) and bassist Stephen Goodwin on the release, in addition to keyboardist and producer Tal Ariel.
“We fell so hard, glued at the soul,” Kingston’s vocals let out amidst pulsing, lush guitars — opening with a lushly caressing introspection as the jangling guitars and hazy synths arise during the “calendars, work, and planes” accounts of daily obligations. The intertwining of piano and synths thereafter make for a riveting sequence, as the vocals add that “love grows like vines, both bound and free, tested over time and across the sky.” The sense of yearning conveyed in the title-touting emotion is especially memorable, into the gorgeously string-laden “when we’re apart” movement. “Days and Nights” is a heart-tugging success from Omnesia.
Check out the track’s music video, described by the band as evoking “Mary Tyler Moore meets Planes, Trains and Automobiles in a nostalgic visual nod to how folks traveled in the past”:
