Merry Brigade – “to lose all interest and focus”

New project Merry Brigade melds expressive vocal work and subdued guitar strums on “to lose all interest and focus.” The artist behind the project, Joe Love, describes the single as “about a period of deep depression I fell into after a psychotic break.”

“Could it be my own love washing down the drain?” his vocals open, subdued and introspective. The strumming guitars maintain a steady demeanor as the vocals ascend with invigorating qualities, particularly in the “watch me let go, and then take me home” culmination. It makes for a brief though powerful success from a project we’ll certainly be keeping our ears out for.

Love continues: “This strange period of psychosis felt like I had discovered a kind of divine oneness, my place in the universe and my purpose seemed completely understood. When reality set in, I faced a complete and utter loss of meaning, purpose and identity that eroded my entire sense of self. I was left utterly hollow; I no longer existed. I had truly lost all interest and focus in my life, and though this was years ago now, this feeling is still with me.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
