Osmunda Music, the project led by Santa Fe-born artist Rebecca Trujillo Vest, captivates with the new EP Spread the Love Around — showcasing a stirring array of dreamy art-pop and emotive folk. Rooted in ancestry, resilience, and healing, the album weaves feminine strength, spiritual reflection, and human connection into warm, expansive soundscapes, balancing introspective intimacy with uplifting, emotionally rich melodies. It’s a thorough representation of the fantastic songwriting coming from Rebecca Trujillo Vest, also a community activist for a variety of causes, from global warming to arts education, in addition to being part of the band Space Babies.
The beautiful, opening title track commences the EP in riveting form. “I feel the light shining,” the lead vocals let out, emitting a “ready to take on the world” confidence as bright organs and gentle guitar strums emanate a gorgeously melodic pull. “We only have one life to live, spread the love around,” the harmonious, replay-enticing chorus then lets out; the EP is full of warming, melodic good-vibes, and “Spread the Love Around” is exemplary of such — dazzling across both organ-laden initial subduedness and later psych-rock nostalgia in its infusions of guitars, steady rhythms, and glowing backing vocal harmonies.
Another standout track, “A Thousand Mysteries” exudes a sense of heartfelt appreciation for the world — from the sun’s warm kiss, to the ocean’s gorgeous blue, and the open feeling of meadows. “Once in awhile, the world can seem so grey, and the clouds get in the way,” the vocals admit, building into a more optimistic array of piano and guitars as perceptions of “mountain-tops and darkest nights” showcase the many emotions apparent within our life experience. “Our Better Angels” is another delight, motivational in its “we can do great things” ethos, while finale “War or Love” concludes the album with a rousing, heart-tugging balladry — beckoning for a world that does more than just benefit “the wealthy few.” Spread the Love Around is a thorough success from Osmunda Music.
