Yeshi – “Starlight”

/

A late-night alt-pop success with soulful vocal charisma and dynamic tonal charm, “Starlight” is a new single from Yeshi. An Ethiopian–English recording artist, singer, rapper, and DJ who was born in London and raised between there and Brighton, Yeshi wrote this track during an impactful trip to Los Angeles, around her 25th birthday (March 20th). Featuring production primarily from Olivier Bassil, with vocals recorded by Ira Grylack, “Starlight” consumes with a polished, punchy sound throughout.

“When I’m going through difficult times, I’m asking myself what would love say,” Yeshi’s vocals propel with an initial hip-hop spirit, as thumping rhythms, mellow keys, and eventual funk-laden guitars emerge with flourishing captivation. The “straight to LA” reference to the aforementioned trip moves into the “let it go, let it show” dark soul allure, culminating in a hooky “party in the starlight” charismatic hook. “Starlight” is a replay-inducing groover from Yeshi.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
