EGGER – “The People”

Unfolding with a spacey, futuristic electronic intrigue, “The People” is a riveting track from EGGER. The Austrian project finds a compelling balance between electronic minimalism and more expansive structural ardor, maneuvering between subdued hypnotics and tonal expanses whilst continually embracing a nocturnal ’80s electro-pop nostalgia — full of both atmosphere and hookiness. Dynamic vocal additions, ranging from nonchalant spoken-word feelings to a mid-point soaring emotiveness, bolster the driving percussive pulse and array of synths with enjoyably seamless cohesion. Thematically, the release also excels in lyrical portrayals of tension, capturing the fine line between “escape and pursuit.” Its relatable introspections on personal meaning and transformation combine with a stylish, nostalgic production.

Buzzing synths and ruminating rhythms, slowly kicking into accelerated gear, craft a wholly climactic introduction. A whirring effect takes hold as pulsing rhythms pair with the suave vocal impact. “Meet the people, meet the men, meet the woman,” they let out with a robotic-like coldness. The bass tones assume a more vigorous fervency as the sequence continues and spacey synth pads flourish, then arriving into a beautiful, soulful vocal emergence. “They run again, not just to flee, but toward a fractured destiny,” they soar, consuming melodically as the initial vocal elements intertwine with sporadic charm. “The People” is a creatively infectious electronic pop standout from EGGER, which was founded by Wolfgang Egger.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
