“Everytime He Leaves” is a soulful, enthralling track from London-based singer-songwriter Neusha. Released this past July, “Everytime He Leaves” succeeds with a variety of talented artists, including a full jazz band that bolsters the fantastic work of producer/composer “Golddisks” and engineer Dheer Modi, who mixed and mastered the song. The magnetic vocal work and artistry of Neusha is also abundant, exemplary of her dynamic ability to shift tonally between soul, jazz, bossa nova, and more familiar pop and indie traversals. Citing influences like Mahmoud Darwish and Jeff Buckley, the 22-year-old Neusha is poised for continued ascent with the excellent “Everytime He Leaves.”
Late-night piano and jazzy rhythms commence the track with lush entrancement. Neusha’s smooth vocals follow. “Every time he leaves, and every time I plead, it’s just as much a game for him as it is for me.” A spine-tingling sequence arrives in the “I’m gone” emotion thereafter, complemented by more illuminated piano tones and a “keep coming back” dash of spoken-word perseverance. The production continues to evolve in satiating form, with the second half dazzling in its array of brass and organs. Reflective backing vocal elements also enamor throughout. A gorgeous blend of soulful vocals, charismatic brass, and jazzy soul-pop stylishness delight on Neusha’s affecting “Everytime He Leaves.”
