Thickshake – “Through the Daylight”

Rockhampton, Australia-based multi-instrumentalist Thickshake stirs on “Through the Daylight,” a brightly affecting single celebrating loved ones and the importance of time shared with them. Entirely self-written, recorded, and produced at home, the track blends fluttering guitars, airy synths, and harmonious vocals into an infectious, uplifting pop-rock escape that captures warmth, joy, and the simple pleasures of being with someone special. The release continues impressive momentum for the artist, who played at Rockhampton River Festival this past July; the set included a stripped-back rendition of this excellent track, which certainly has us anticipating whatever’s next from Thickshake.

“When I woke up this morning, it was colder than I’m used to,” an introspective vocal presence begins, bolstered by flourishing guitar twangs and light touches of synths. Hopefulness for more ideal weather gears up into more harmonious vocal work, exuding a smitten entrancement in the “just stay with you through the daylight” lyrical adorations. The equivalency of having one by your side to positive, sun-up weather makes for an enamoring impact throughout, maintaining that chipper feeling in its array of feel-good “stay with you” sentiments and chirpy, bright guitar personality. Navigating a comfortable, familiar song structure and amiable rock spirit within themes of celebrating loved ones, “Through the Daylight” is a stellar output from Thickshake.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
