Blackbird Blackbird – “Two Peas in a Pod”

/

Conjuring a hazy alt-pop charm, “Two Peas in a Pod” is an enamoring track from Blackbird Blackbird. The project of SF/Bay Area native and Filipino-American musician Mikey Maramag first caught our ears way back in 2013 with the single “Summer’s Almost Here,” and this newly released track shows a continued knack for quality songwriting and immersive productions. Blackbird Blackbird has excelled since we last heard from them, with a multitude of acclaimed albums and singles, and “Two Peas in a Pod” plays as a great entry point for those just familiarizing themselves.

Written in 10/8 time and delivering a caressing array of layered vocals, vintage drums, and atmospheric guitar tones, “Two Peas in a Pod” commences with subdued guitar trickling — expanding artfully into a mellow vocal immersion. “You grip me like a vice, can’t seem to escape your vicegrip,” the vocals let out, exuding a sense of heartfelt devotion — strongly attached, though with a “that’s ok you’re right with me” warmness. The title-referencing vocal call sends chills as creaky guitars and sporadic rhythms intertwine.

The stellar track comes via Blackbird Blackbird’s newly released double-album, Dreamstuck — representing the first of three singles:

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
