Chilean producer Nicoorion joins forces with guitarist Bruno de la Vega for “DÆMON,” a cinematic plunge into melodic techno that compels in its gradually unfolding momentum and artful atmospherics — seamlessly infusing de la Vega’s vibey guitar work with an array of enveloping electronic textures. Shifting toward a darker, concept-driven narrative, the track emphasizes hypnotic restraint and organic textures, resulting in a thoroughly enticing, replay-inducing success from the collaborating duo.
A stutter-y, spacey intrigue gets underway as a nocturnal synth tone creaks forward — quickly complemented by lush pads and a throbbing rhythmic inclination. The synth-bass bounce and panting percussive element move cohesively as otherworldly synth frequencies continue to intertwine. The patiently unfolding, strongly atmospheric prowess reminds fondly of Oneohtrix Point Never’s productions. A shift to hazier, dreamier allure takes hold momentarily, escalating again into a two-minute turn with snappy rhythms and stylish electronic sounds.
The build-up to the four-minute mark is also wholly absorbing, with the preceding minute being a climactically blissful stirrer that combines guitars and electronic atmospherics within a spacious, rhythm-less entrancement. The rhythms re-emerge with intoxicating effect across the subsequent minute, then culminating in a lovely, satiating conclusion that fades out slowly with a lulling, sunset-fit charm. Impressing with its riveting soundscape and momentum-filled structural climb, “DÆMON” is a gripping electronic success from Nicoorion & Bruno De la Vega.
