RAINBOW BELTZ – “246”

/

Tokyo-based dream rock quartet RAINBOW BELTZ captures the atmospheric intimacy of a midnight drive on their riveting third single, “246.” This release marks their official debut as a solidified four-piece, blending shoegaze-infused brightness with a driving, grunge-inspired energy. Lyrically exploring escapist yearning through a lens of “modern dream rock,” the band utilizes gauzy guitar layers and pulsing bass to dramatize the emotional shifts unfolding within a moving car.

The track gets underway with gorgeous blasts of guitar distortion, combining seamlessly with both a pulsing bass entrancement and effervescent textured allure. Dreamy vocals follow, referencing sparkling colors lyrically as the accompanying guitars continue to emanate a shoegaze-y brightness; the mixture of starry-eyed lyrical descriptors and gorgeously gauzy guitars makes for an enjoyably escapist feel. “I dreamed of us,” the vocals begin during a spacious sequence, with twangy guitars and rumbling bass furthering the lushly inviting mood.

The “hold me tight” segment is particularly captivating in its yearning, beckoning vocal qualities and fuzzy, warming guitar layers. A shimmering resonance around 02:30 pairs with subdued vocal charm, accelerating with those escapist themes in the “drive away from this town” aspirations. The final minute dazzles with intertwining vocal layers and “you and I” hopefulness, concluding the release with invigorating, absorbing satisfaction.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
