Lulu Leloup – “I Guess You Loved Me Until You Didn’t”

/

“I Guess You Loved Me Until You Didn’t” is a smoothly impactful track from Lulu Leloup‘s upcoming EP, March, out on March 27th. The track channels a smoky, lounge-inspired atmosphere through intimate piano work and suave brass. Her vocal delivery is dynamic in its tonal approach and narration, masterfully exploring the temporary nature of romance with the sharp, witty charm of a noir-era storyteller. It marks a thoroughly memorable output from the Beirut/Dubai-based jazz and blues singer-songwriter.

Expressive piano and subdued, jazzy percussive pitter-pattering establishes a compelling, lounge-set soundscape. Lulu Leloup’s vocals emerge thereafter with smoky, hypnotic allure. “If you were meant to make me happy, you’d be here,” she lets out with debonair immersion, alternating between a sort of spoken-word intrigue and soulful singing inflection. “I guess you loved me, right up until you didn’t,” her vocals enthrall thereafter, complemented by a further magnetic piano work. Warming, suave brass adornments inject seamlessly as well.

The track’s two-minute turn is especially compelling, strutting a swinging, jazzy bass line as the colorful piano work emanates charisma. “I guess the sun shines, until it sets,” Lulu Leloup’s artful vocal introspections continue, equating temporary aspects of life — including love and relationships, in some cases — to the fickleness of weather. A fantastic melding of blues and soul with vulnerable lyrical prowess and captivating vocals, “I Guess You Loved Me Until You Didn’t” is a standout success from Lulu Leloup.
