New single “Running Into You” achieves a serenely engaging indie pop appeal, marking a fantastic return for Norwegian group Nansy. Coming 25 years after the band formed in Oslo, and then disbanded after releasing just one EP, the melodic “Running Into You” comes via their long-awaited debut album, Need You Around, releasing on May 29th via Saiko Records and Fastcut Records (Japan).
The album’s ten tracks are written and produced by Børge Sildnes (Dylan Mondegreen), while the lead vocals of Anita Nansy Valderhaug provide a dreamy warmth amidst the memorable arrangements. In the case of “Running Into You,” her vocals enamor alongside mellow keys, calming bass, and soft acoustic strums — retracing a “just the other day” recounting of running into an old friend, and a rush of memories ensuing.
The “keep running into you” refrain delights, especially, in its mixture of jangly guitars and lush keys — the “Christ, it’s been 30 years” acknowledgement being an apt line for a band that’s marking a comeback after all this time. “Running Into You” has us fully anticipating Nansy’s upcoming album.
