Rowhome – “Bad Feeling”

Arizona-based project Rowhome marks the return of musician Becca Todd, formerly the lead singer of Philadelphia rock band Pilkington. Launched in early 2026, Rowhome succeeds with a sound steeped in synth-forward baroque pop and indie-rock smarts, thematically addressing the concept of “joyful pessimism” — which finds beauty in the truth that nothing will ever fully be okay. Recorded at Saint Cecilia Studios in Tucson, AZ, the track precedes an upcoming LP, set to release later this year.

A mellow, inviting rhythmic presence ventures into a spacey intrigue — propelled by a jangly guitar undercurrent and wavering synth allure. Todd’s vocals emerge with lushly absorbing cohesion thereafter, with fluttering guitar twangs and easy-going rhythms making for a lovely sense of introspection. “Took you to some faraway place, to find some misplaced remedy, to sit alone in the silence,” her vocals traverse, fondly reminiscent of Japanese Breakfast in its rousing expanse from serene contemplations to hooky vigor.

The ensuing “I’ve got a bad feeling” vocal line compels in its heightened emotion and intertwining guitar layers, further accompanied by a return of that initial synth line. A climactic sequence takes hold as the title-referencing proclamation, initially bolstered by a spacious minimalism, meets the warming guitar layers and head-nodding percussion. The final minute also delights, enjoyably reminiscent of Camera Obscura in its chamber-pop caressing. Succeeding in its relatable “joyful pessimism” outlook amidst a supremely melodic synth-laden rock production, “Bad Feeling” is a standout debut from Rowhome.
