The Ancient Unknown – “Separated”

London-based rockers The Ancient Unknown unleash a yearning, powerful rock sound on “Separated,” described as “a song about longing for a none present loved one who has been taken away due to the bureaucracy of politics.” Following up their previous single “Animals,” the captivating “Separated” also comes via the band’s upcoming album.

A hazy swell of fierce guitar distortion takes hold right away, moving into further tonal clarity and a yearning vocal presence. “Separated from my lover, don’t know when I will get to see her,” they let out with commanding vigor, moving into an intensified wave of gauzy distortion, prancing piano, and a soaring vocal expanse. The sweltering guitar tones meld with the fervent vocal switch-up, crossing the one-minute turn with impassioned charm and into a free-flowing electric guitar whimsy.

Laments of separation return in the ensuing verses, reminding fondly of Suede in its spacious rock emotion. The heavy guitar tones and enveloping vocal power thereafter succeed with anthemic power, there reminding of a cross between Muse’s grandiosity and Queens of the Stone Age’s grit. The “our love was taken” accounts follow into a satiating final minute, blasting off at the three-minute mark into a frenzied, high-flying vocal power, with shades of Led Zeppelin in its ascending vocal tone and blistering guitar heaviness. “Separated” is a wholly rousing rock ‘n’ roll success from The Ancient Unknown.
