Virginia Louise – “Hollow”

Channeling an alluring ’90s rock nostalgia amidst its textured guitars and harmonious vocal presence, “Hollow” is a memorable new track from Virginia Louise. Originally from just outside of Austin, Texas and now based in Nashville, the artist excels with a range of jangling momentum — with admissions that “I just found a shadow of my heart inside your house” — and bursting guitar distortion. “Hollow me out,” Virginia Louise’s vocals beckon with infectious appeal during that hard-rocking chorus, which then shifts seamlessly back into the jangly verses, with shades of Frankie Rose there.

“Lyrically, I wrote it about the feeling of not wanting to be abandoned by your partner,” Virginia Louise says of the track. “I was wondering why my relationships at the time always felt doomed, and like I was falling behind compared to everyone else I knew in my life.” The result is a heartfelt, relatable success that proves moving in both its lyrical power and hooky vigor.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
