By Million Wires – ‘Not Over’ EP

Balanced by a sound that spans from alt-rock introspections to shoegaze-y textural intensity, Polish Tarnów-based band By Million Wires impress throughout their upcoming EP, Not Over. Founder Mirek Skrok takes over vocal duties on this release, merging sharp guitar textures with a raw, intimate delivery. The project explores themes of autonomy and survival, blending rhythmic precision with expansive, atmospheric soundscapes.

The EP’s lead single, “Over” opens the release in riveting form. Twangy guitars flow with catchy dexterity, and also a cinematic mystique — especially as the intertwining guitar layers persist amidst a moody rhythmic backing. “There is no regret over indecision,” the consuming vocal presence lets out with introspective ethereality, then beckoning to “wake me up” with gripping ardor. The emotive vocals entice throughout, and into a wholly satiating outro, with a thunderous post-rock edge. The ensuing “Glass Houses,” released as a single last week, moves with climactic intrigue — its jangly guitars pairing with haunting vocals, arriving into aspirations to intoxicate oneself in visions of a better world, even if it’s a facade.

Another excellent single, “I Know Better,” arrives next, delighting in its hazy guitar swirls and triple-meter rhythm. Themes of finding personal autonomy strut an artful appeal, the “wash me away” sequence dazzling alongside the twangy guitar work. The dreamy guitar work within “Lost or Won” also envelops, with lyrical perspectives on past and future driving into an excellent “don’t surrender to anyone” pull, while EP finale “Runaway” is a satisfying send-off with its post-punk bass and shimmering guitars, aesthetically reminding fondly of Wild Beasts. Not Over is a fantastic EP from By Million Wires, full of both melody and emotion.
