Seville, Spain-based artist Edu Campoy Molinero blends power-pop energy with progressive rock vigor on his project V.E.N! (Virtual Emotions Network). His latest EP, THE BEAUTY OF DANGER, pairs impactful lyricism with eclectic guitar tones, encompassing ’60s pop influences and familiarly inviting modern jangly appeal. Also a visual artist, Campoy creates intricate collages for each track.
The aptly named “CLOUD OF BLISS” opens the album with twangy, hypnotic guitar work — then moving seamlessly into affecting vocals and hazy strums. “You live inside a song, it’s like laughing at life,” the vocals then proclaim with anthemic ardor, as jangling guitar currents meld with backing vocal responses for a powerful, replay-inducing charm. The opener excels in its variety between initially introspective haziness and ensuing passion, and that knack for quality, momentum-filled productions continues throughout the EP’s other tracks, as well.
Standout track “NOW” arrives next, thematically reflecting on freedom and reinvention with a production that spans from brisk jangly rock/pop to ooh-ing vocal harmonies. “He was reborn and created melodies that no one can forget,” the vocals let out, continuing the opener’s living-within-a-song feeling. Backing, colorful organs and bursting guitars combine with the hooky vocal presence for another delight of a track. EP finale “WALK ON FIRE” excels as well, exuding a Pulp-esque guitar/synth interplay alongside a strong lyrical prowess, distinguishing between a tumultuous outside world and the intimate, harmonious sanctuary found in a partner’s gaze. THE BEAUTY OF DANGER is a wonderfully melodic rock success from V.E.N! (Virtual Emotions Network).
