A resonating new track and video from Aircraft, “Navkolo Nich” moves from spoken-word introspection to a thumping, hypnotic yet celebratory rock allure. Translating to “Night is all around,” the track is described by the artist behind the project (Ukrainian musician Daniel Merkulov) as “about friendship and night parties.”
“Waiting for the night to come…” an anticipatory vocal delivery opens, referring to that night as hopefully “binding us together” like it did “many years ago.” A fuzzy guitar resonance ensues, bolstered by a rhythmic backbone with trip-hop undercurrents. The title-touting vocal push feels celebratory and brash in its invigorating tone, its repetition consuming alongside twangy guitar entrancement. A concluding guitar solo blares with further infectious charm, wrapping up the production with satisfying finality. The overall listening experience is fun and replay-inducing, resembling an ode to the night’s many possibilities and opportunity for connection.
Aircraft first caught our ears with the excellent track “On the edge” last year, and is coming off the acclaimed album Death is around the corner.
Another recent video release from Aircraft is “Зона,” dedicated to the Chernobyl disaster, 40 years later:
