Originally from Vermont and now based in Nashville, Lillian Leadbetter consumes with a calming folk introspection on “Move the Moon,” growing from understated acoustic-set ruminations to multi-layered vocal emotion, gushing “if I could pick and choose, I’d be with you.” A strong sense of adoration shows throughout, capturing the complexities of a long-distance relationship — “hangin’ out your heart on the wire, through the telephone” — as well as enduring love, where even a daunting task like moving the moon pales in comparison to the fervent emotions a couple can hold.
Leadbetter says of the track’s inspiration:
“This song was written in a long distance situationship that spanned an ocean and many months. As we fell in love, we both wondered if there would ever be a way to be together.” She continues: “Move the Moon is an anthem of impossible love. From a desire to have it all, the love, the life and the time together, knowing that it’s as uncontrollable as a persons ability to influence the moon. Longingly, this song ends an open ended question, perhaps suggesting that: if I was indeed powerful enough move the moon, is this still what I would choose?”
