Lumirex – “Hurts”

“Hurts” is a darkly affecting electronic track from Munich-based producer Lumirex, featuring the expressive vocals of Iranian singer Ghazaleh E. Blending industrial-forward rhythms with a hypnotic bass line and vibey synths, the track channels the brooding, tense trip-hop mystique of Portishead and Massive Attack. The production masterfully balances nocturnal spacey frequencies against a fierce vocal delivery, building an immersive atmosphere that thrives on shadowy contrast and an emotively gripping structural expansion.

A deep bass resonance opens the track, quickly complemented by twinkling synth tones and industrial-forward rhythms. “Every hour…” a haunting vocal presence lets out, soulfully ascending into a howling ferocity and alternations between visceral lyricism and wordless ghostliness. The atmospheric vocals, pulsing bass tones, and glistening synths maneuver artfully past the first minute, into an infectious array of layered vocal intrigue and nocturnal synth entrancement.

The two-minute turn unveils an especially spine-tingling soundscape, foreboding in its “last one kills” vocal refrain and Lynchian, cinematic synth simmering. A repeating emphasis on the word “kill” and ensuing scream then traverses into a final minute with spacey synth frequencies and pounding rhythmic ruminations. Masterful in its structural build-up and intensely dynamic vocal delivery, “Hurts” is a thoroughly captivating, expertly produced success from Lumirex.
