Conchis – “Under Your Feathers”

Helsinki-based artist Conchis‘ new single “Under Your Feathers” balances expansive, atmospheric synths and moody bass with ascending vocals, all while creating thematic tension between hope and heaviness. The track is the second preview of Gravity, an album composed entirely in her mind during a period of severe illness, transforming physical stillness into richly imagined electronic soundscapes.

“When I make music, I like to combine opposites: light and darkness, hope and resignation, complexity and simplicity,” she says. “The production reflects this tension, balancing forward motion with stagnation, brightness with weight, intimacy with density.”

A compelling swell of spacey synths develops into an energetic, arpeggiated feeling, met by a soaring, dreamy presence. “Let your angels watch over us,” she sings, delighting in its lushly absorbing aura. A bass-heavy, industrial-forward rhythm section then takes hold, melding with simmering electronic allure as her voice falls back into a single-layered, serene introspection. References to “paths of regrets” and beckoning to know “how much longer” conjure a feeling of self-analysis, melodically enhanced by the recurrence of the “let your angels watch over us” multi-layered caressing.

“Tracing back our footsteps,” her delivery grips during an especially resonant sequence, where a darker atmospheric hold, with shades of Radiohead, drives with art-pop momentum to a ghostly harmonic enthrallment. There, at around the three-minute turn, the spine-tingling lead voice, hypnotic bass, and dreamy synths combine for a fully riveting appeal, before a reprisal of the main affecting hook. “Under Your Feathers” is a fantastic production from Conchis.
