UK-based producer NUTRI3NT collaborates with Israeli artist Daniella Goldfine on “Mercedes Laments,” an absorbing downtempo pop track inspired by Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo. Goldfine’s compelling vocals weave suspense across crisp synth arpeggios, cinematic strings, and an ’80s-style Moog bassline. The evocative production masterfully explores heartbreak and the resolute determination to move onward, finding a lovely ground between contemplation and call-to-action.
The track opens with a spaciously haunting vocal unveiling, with Goldfine’s “not long ago” emergence moving alongside a crisp synth arpeggio, sporadic piano glistening, and steady rhythmic pulses. “As the clock struck the hour,” her vocals progress with palpable momentum, the riveting “you hold the power” proclamation signaling a subsequent expanse of bass-y ruminations and string-laden chills. Harmonious vocal layers intermingle at the track’s midpoint and into another exceptional sequence, where “it all seemed fine” vocal contemplations progress with melodically alluring prowess.
“You never forgot those days,” Goldfine’s vocals maneuver into a memorable final minute, preceded by a drive to “forget about loving you.” Heartbreak, yet a determination to move onward, stirs within the enveloping production — acknowledging days past, though also a motivation to move on. Atmospheric, melodic, and heartfelt, “Mercedes Laments” is another standout showing from NUTRI3NT, who also caught our ears last year with the track “Cold Outside.”
